Winter’s Day

It was one of those really spectacular winter weekends in Sydney. Although it’s still the middle of winter, I was never quite sure when leaving the house about whether or not a pullover was needed. Of course it was, but wandering about there were moments when you could have imagined it was spring or autumn, not the end of July. A trip to Newtown yesterday and Circular Quay today just confirmed for me how beautiful Sydney can be at this time of year.

Today, in particular I wandered for a while around some of the back streets of The Rocks, really appreciating both the natural and man-made beauty of the area. There’s something truly magic about finding a quiet spot near the Wharf Theatre, overlooking the harbour, and casting your eyes around, noticing people fishing of the wharves, people enjoying the water, and seeing more detail in the construction of the Harbour Bridge than I think I’ve ever noticed before. Gee, I hope this doesn’t sound too cosmic…
