“OMG BBQ King is closing down”, a colleague explained to me a year or so ago. He was genuinely concerned at the loss of a “Sydney institution” Located near the corner of Sussex and Goulburn streets, BBQ was the place where you could go with a large group or by yourself to feast on plates of delicious duck, chicken or pork. Though the decore and service implied it was a fairly inexpensive place to dine, when the bill arrived you seen realised it wasn’t. I’m not sure how much that had to do with the actual cost of the meals, or the propensity of groups to over-order.
For the first time since BBQ King relocated to Liverpool Street, I went there today for a late afternoon/early evening dinner, as you’ll see from the photographs. Though the decore lacks the old world charm of the previous building, the tasty food and indifferent service lives on. Welcome back BBQ King.
