Blessed Are The Cheesemakers

It was a beautiful day in Sydney, and so absolutely awesome to hang out with two of my oldest friends (forty years), Sue and Paul, as Paul and (newer friend, fifteen years) Kerry sold their cheese at the Kurrajong Kitchen Cheese Lovers Festival 2018 at Centennial Park.

Paul and Kerry run Nimbin Valley Dairy http://www.nimbinvalley.com.au/. “Are you really from Nimbin?” a few people asked, surprised, I guess, we weren’t dressed in rainbow coloured pants. Thankfully, there were only a few “Nimbin Jokes” from customers who were, mostly young, and really interested in learning more about cheese. “The Master Chef phenomenon”, we concluded. “Everyone in Sydney is so polite”, Paul said at one point. “We’re used to forming queues”, I told him with a smile.

At the start of the day, Sue and I knew next to nothing about the products (our role was to keep the fridge stocked, the orders coming through, and to do the coffee-runs), but by the end of the day, we were convinced we could quit our jobs this week and start work at the David Jones Food Hall :) Well, maybe not, but it was a terrific day.

Tonight at home, I enjoyed drinking a glass (or two) of wine and eating some of the Nashua Washed Rind. Life is good. Check out their cheese!

    • A really lovely day, and yes, the cheese is amazing. I have enough cheese in the fridge to last me a couple of weeks. Though when I heard a few people ask how long the cheese would last in the fridge, and when Paul told them 6-8 weeks (depending on the cheese), I whispered to Sue “Who keeps cheese in the fridge that long. I eat it straight away!”.
